Why Your Second Home Tour Should Be Different

The first tour of a home often answers an emotional question:

Do I like this house?

A second visit, when one is practical and permitted within your buying process, can answer a different question:

How would I actually live here?

Look at storage. Think about furniture placement. Notice the relationship between bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry.

Look at the garage and guest parking.

Step into the backyard and listen.

Consider natural light and how it may change throughout the day.

Think beyond special occasions and imagine an ordinary weekday.

Where does your purse or briefcase land? Where do groceries enter the house? Where does the vacuum go?

Can I picture an ordinary Tuesday here?

That question can be more revealing than imagining your first holiday dinner.

Your inspection and other due diligence remain important, but evaluating everyday livability adds another layer to your buying decision.
