What Should You Keep When Downsizing?
One of the hardest parts of downsizing is deciding what deserves a place in your next home.
The answer is not always based on price.
Something can be inexpensive and incredibly meaningful.
Something can be expensive and completely unnecessary.
That is why a simple three-question test can help.
Do I use it?
If you use something regularly, it may deserve to come with you.
Do I love it?
Some possessions have emotional value that cannot be measured financially.
Family photographs, special artwork, heirlooms, letters, and meaningful gifts may be important parts of your story.
Does it belong in my next life chapter?
This question can be surprisingly powerful.
You may discover that some possessions belong to a previous stage of your life.
That does not make those items meaningless.
It simply means you are making room for what comes next.
One of the biggest benefits of downsizing is becoming more intentional about what surrounds you.
Instead of opening a closet and seeing things you have not used in years, imagine opening that same closet and seeing only the things you actually need and enjoy.
That is the goal.
Not an empty house.
A meaningful home.
If you are beginning the downsizing process, take your time.
Give yourself permission to keep the things that matter.
Give yourself permission to let go of things that no longer serve you.
And remember that there is no prize for finishing the fastest.
The goal is to create a home that feels comfortable, manageable, and right for the life you want to live.
