A Smoother Move Starts Before Moving Day

September 01, 20261 min read

A move becomes harder when dozens of small decisions arrive at once. Organization reduces that pressure.

Create one central moving file containing contracts, important dates, contact information, utility confirmations and receipts. Label boxes for their destination rooms. Prepare a first-night box, and personally carry medication, identification, financial documents, jewelry and irreplaceable items.

For downsizers, packing is also the wrong time to make every possession decision. Complete as much sorting and donating as possible beforehand.

Martha’s Tip: Make a “do not load” area for luggage, medications, important papers and items traveling with you.
