Right-Size Your Next Move
Downsizing is often described as moving into a smaller house. For many 55+ homeowners, the better goal is right-sizing: choosing a home whose space, maintenance, location, and cost better match the life you want now.
Start with what you want more of
Do you want more time to travel, more social connection, easier maintenance, single-level living, or a shorter drive to healthcare and family? Those answers should shape the search.
Identify the spaces you really use
A smaller home does not mean every room must be small. Prioritize the kitchen, office, hobby room, guest space, patio, or other areas that support your ordinary week.
Count responsibilities, not just rooms
Landscaping, cleaning, repairs, utilities, pools, spas, and unused rooms create ongoing responsibilities. Right-sizing can mean reducing the responsibilities you no longer want.
Is downsizing always less expensive?
No. Purchase price, taxes, insurance, HOA fees, utilities, maintenance, and moving expenses vary. Compare actual costs for the properties and communities you are considering.
