Photos are a starting point

spaces, and many of a home’s visible features. But even excellent photography cannot capture the

entire experience of living in a property.

Scale can be difficult to judge

Wide-angle lenses may make rooms appear larger, while a photograph may not reveal ceiling height,

furniture clearance, hallway width, or the relationship between rooms. Measurements, floor plans, and

an in-person visit can provide a more accurate understanding.

The neighborhood matters

Photos rarely show traffic patterns, nearby commercial areas, street activity, or how long it takes to

reach groceries, medical care, restaurants, and recreation. If you are relocating, these everyday

details may be just as important as the home itself.

Sun, shade, and views change during the day

A bright morning patio may be exposed to strong afternoon sun. A mountain view may be more limited

from a seated position than it appears in a photograph. Visit at different times when possible,

especially if outdoor living is a priority.

Use technology when you cannot visit

Out-of-area buyers can benefit from live video tours, detailed photographs, floor plans, community

videos, and conversations focused on specific questions. These tools can provide more context,

although buyers should remain aware of their limitations.

Complete the picture before deciding

Listing photos can introduce you to a property, but thoughtful research helps you understand the

home, the setting, and the lifestyle around it.
